I’m a big fan of Chinese-language movies and TV shows. I’ve always wanted to enjoy these movies as they were meant to be enjoyed: with English subtitles. However, the problem is that few Chinese-to-English translators are available, and those who do offer their services charge an exorbitant amount for their work. So naturally, this led me onto an exploration of how AI could help bridge the linguistic gap between these two languages.

However, despite this proliferation of speakers, there are still many challenges associated with translating Chinese videos into English and vice versa, including:

  • Inconsistent use of terminology across industries and fields (e.g., healthcare vs. finance)
  • Limited vocabulary when describing things like emotions or feelings (e.g., “happy” vs “excited”)

There are many challenges in translating Chinese videos to English.

  • The meaning of a video can be very difficult to translate because it depends on many factors, such as tone, context and culture. For example: “Are you going?” vs “Are you going?” In one situation, asking someone if they are going somewhere may mean that they should go (e.g., “I’m going to get lunch”). In another situation, asking someone if they are going somewhere could be interpreted as an invitation for them to come along with you (e.g., “Let’s go out together!”). Also, consider the difference between asking someone a question directly versus indirectly through body language or tone of voice; this can make all the difference in how a question is interpreted by its recipient!
  • “Translation” does not always mean “word-for-word translation”. For example: 你好吗? Nǐ hǎo ma? Hello!, How are you?, Good morning!, Good afternoon!, Good evening! These phrases represent greetings that we commonly use when greeting people at different times throughout the day, but each has its own nuance depending on which one is used at what time – there isn’t just one way to say hello! Similarly though there may be multiple ways in which something can be translated into another language this doesn’t mean that all translations will necessarily sound natural when spoken out loud since some words might sound unnatural coming from someone else’s mouth even though they’re technically correct translations themselves

But this technology isn’t perfect, yet it lacks certain context clues that humans naturally pick up on during conversation (e.g., sarcasm).

This is made possible by using machine learning algorithms that have been trained on thousands of hours worth of videos with both languages spoken clearly enough for ASR software to understand them properly.
